"THE THING FROM INNER SPACE"
20 minutes, 8/09/2001atPall Mall Club
by Denis Romanovski
The performer washes the part of the floor where the previous acts took
place, where the audience was standing, and where the club's waitresses
were creeping past. Using a laboratory stand, he strains the dirty water
through a napkin. Having thus re-separated the water and dirt, he lays
a table for himself... A plate of filtered waste and a glass of murky
water. The alchemy of irreversible processes. One quality becomes another.
A low-energy state (dust on the floor) turns into expectation : who will
eat it; for whom has this art been served up; what will the performer
do next, this incomprehensible person who has just been working hard at
something so useless and unnoticeable? The movement of time. Even dust
will never be dust again once it has been purveyed at an artistic table.
