ALIVE-DEAD

by Viktor Petrov
This performance was a reflection on changing cultural contexts and politics
in the war of cultures. By depicting the processes which influence contemporary
art and culture, the artists accept the rules of the game of self-destruction,
as if taking on the concentrated onslaught of modern consumerist "ideology".
The way consciousness is changing through the advertising market and its consumers.
Several litres of Coca-Cola seep slowly from medical drips into suspended loaves
of "Dead" white bread which soak it up, then fall, ready to be placed
onto the "Alive" pile. The performers, dressed in elegant black suits,
white shirts and ties, pour themselves 50ml shots of vodka and drink them. The
process has begun - unable to stand the "strain", the young audience
starts taking the performers' bread away.
