EWA SWIDIŃSKA
Białystok, Poland
Untitled
by Viktor Petrov
An extremely elegant performance. It began even before the start of the actual
event, as it was being prepared in a quiet, scarcely noticeable corner of a
room on the first floor. The performer places new white T-shirts in a large
pile on the floor by a wall, then falls to her knees on them, her face turned
resolutely towards the wall. After stripping to the waist, she slowly pulls
out and puts on T-shirts one after another, then rips them off again once she
is wearing them. The total silence in the hall is violated by the sound of ripping
cloth. The performance lasts twenty minutes, the audience captivated by the
silence in the overcrowded hall and the solitary, slim, half-naked figure kneeling
on white material.
