GRA¬YNA BOROWIK
Kraków, Poland
1. I DON'T LIKE RED
by Viktor Petrov
This performance came across as an action comprising elements of protest and irony regarding the past. The performer, wearing a forage cap covered in badges and medals, orders her five assistants to cut up a long red ribbon they have been holding. Using safety-pins, they attach bows of ribbon to their chests. The artist then proceeds to cut the red T-shirt she has been wearing into pieces. The unmistakable meaning of the red is obvious here. The fear, subordination and herd instincts to be found in our day-to-day reality must be banished from our lives. The action is one of the symbolic destruction of our receding past.

2. FROM TIME TO TIME
The performer is interested by the phenomenon of games which occur when a spectator has understood an artist's concept and proposed form of communication, and is able respond with an adequate play. The performer is interested in people in this context. She monitors their reactions to her game. Throughout the performance she offers them children's clothes to try on, then throws them away, washes them, and hangs them up to dry.
