SEIREN SPODUMENOS

by Viktor Petrov
This performance is a continuation of an older happening entitled "After",
which was presented in 1997. During that event, some of the female assistant's
hair was cut off by the artist and kept for the next performance. The performer
wears a long white dress and hat, her face concealed by a black mask. Sitting
at a table, she sets fire to the hair in a white chalice, then leaves ashy fingerprints
on white sheets of paper bearing fragments of her own texts and poetry. These
are then sealed into envelopes, some of them are placed into a birdcage standing
on the table, while the others are handed out to spectators.
