WOJCIECH KOWALCZYK
Bydgoszcz, Poland
Untitled
by Viktor Petrov
The performer is interested by various theories which he describes at the beginning
of his performance. They might be described as theories of antisculpture, antipainting
or antiperformance. He works with symbols while mocking them at the same time.
His job is to provoke and parody "social" standards. The naked performer
imitates the grunting of a pig. He passes two roses through his underpants. Approaching
a wall festooned with vinyl records, his grunts change into church canticles and
popular and patriotic songs, while he rolls his head to imitate a record player's
tone-arm. Next, with renewed grunting, the performer approaches the audience to
show them a disc bearing the all-seeing eye. Then the holy spirit dwelling inside
the naked performer points to the prettiest girls in the crowd of spectators,
saying that they need to be kissed.
